Preble County Genealogy & History Fair

The Preble County Room is planning our 2nd Annual Genealogy & History Fair on Saturday, June 22nd to highlight the genealogy resources in the area.  We are inviting local history organizations throughout the area to give researchers a single event to get acquainted with research opportunities and to allow networking between the organizations.  To add another layer to the Genealogy Fair, this year we are also inviting local vendors who specialize in historical crafts and restoration of materials.

Mound Builders and Village Dwellers

Andy Sawyer from SunWatch Indian Village will be speaking on the Mound Buildiers and Village Dwellers at the Preble County Room, 450 S. Barron Street in Eaton.

Over the last 2,000 years, southern Ohio's pre-contact occupants left their mark on the landscape ranging from large earthen constructions to villages that housed hundreds of people.  The Fort Ancient Site near Lebanon represents the mound building efforts of the people we call the Hopewell while SunWatch Indian Village in Dayton provides evidence of the first intensive farmers of the middle Ohio River valley region.
