A fun and exciting reading rewards program!
What is Reading Dragons and Friends?
Reading Dragons is a new reading rewards program being offered at the Eaton and West Alexandria branches of the Preble County District Library. By regularly reading and reporting back, you can earn Reading Dragons trading cards and grow your collection. This program is open to patrons of all ages, so parents can get in on the fun, too!
How to get started
Starting September 1st, simply come to the circulation desk at your participating library and tell them "I want to sign up for Reading Dragons!" You'll receive your starter cards and Reading Dragons Tracker, and you can immediately start reading and earning cards! This program runs yearly from September 1 through April 30.

Reading Dragons Tracker

Keeping track of your reading couldn't be easier with the Reading Dragons Tracker. Each box is thirty minutes of reading, and every two boxes is a new card. You can earn up to four cards in a month just by reading!
How to play
There are many games that you can play with your Reading Dragons cards! Here are a few examples, but check back in the future for new rules and games.
Example Reading Dragons
Rock, Paper, Scissors

To play, you and a friend each choose one card secretly, keeping it hidden so your friend can't see what you chose. Then count to 3 and both of you flip over your cards to see who wins.

  • Fire beats Leaf
  • Leaf beats Water
  • Water beats Fire
  • If you have the same color you tie.
Battle!

For a basic battle, all players should have the same number of cards in their deck. (we recommend starting with 5!)

Set your cards face down in a stack, making sure the other player hasn’t seen your cards. On the count of 3, flip your cards over to reveal the card on top. Each round works similar to Rock Paper Scissors, following the same element system.

If both cards have the same element, the oldest card wins (ex: adult beats teen, child beats egg).

The winner of each round gets a point.
Flip the next card to repeat. The player with the most points once you reach the end of your deck wins the battle!
